The Boss Babe Monthly Reset: 8 Things to Do at the Beginning of Every Month 🎀
A new calendar.
New goals.
New opportunities.
And, most importantly, another chance to get your life together before the month somehow disappears. 😭
But a monthly reset isn't about completely reinventing yourself every 30 days.
It's about taking a little time to check in with your finances, goals, schedule and mindset so you can enter the new month feeling organized instead of overwhelmed.
Whether you're working full-time, studying, building a side hustle, managing a household or doing a little bit of everything, creating a simple monthly reset routine can help you feel much more in control.
So grab your coffee, your favourite playlist and your planner.
Here are 8 things to do at the beginning of every month for the ultimate Boss Babe Monthly Reset. 💗
1. Review Last Month
Before planning where you're going, look at where you've been.
Spend a few minutes reviewing the previous month.
Ask yourself:
What went well?
What goals did I accomplish?
What didn't get done?
What did I enjoy?
What stressed me out?
Where did most of my money go?
What habits helped me?
What do I want to do differently this month?
Don't turn this into a session of criticizing yourself.
The goal isn't to feel guilty about everything you didn't accomplish.
It's to notice patterns.
Maybe you planned too many goals.
Maybe you spent more than expected on takeout.
Maybe you finally became consistent with the gym.
Maybe your side hustle had its best month yet.
Maybe you simply survived a difficult month — and that counts too.
Write down three wins from last month, even if they seem small.
Progress deserves to be acknowledged.
Boss Babe Reflection 🎀
Complete these three sentences:
Last month I'm proud that I…
One thing I learned was…
This month I want to improve…
Simple reflection can make your next month's goals much more intentional.
2. Check All Your Bank Accounts 💳
This may not be the most exciting part of your monthly reset, but it might be one of the most important.
Open your banking apps and look at your actual numbers.
Not the number you think is in your account.
The real number. 😭
Check your:
Chequing/current account
Savings account
Credit card balance
Loans
Buy-now-pay-later balances
Business accounts
Investment accounts, if applicable
Then review your recent transactions.
Look for:
Subscriptions you forgot about
Unexpected charges
Bills that still need to be paid
Overspending categories
Payments that haven't cleared
Any suspicious transactions
This simple financial check-in prevents you from moving through the month completely unaware of where your money stands.
You can't create a realistic financial plan without knowing your starting point.
3. Update Your Monthly Budget 💰
Now that you know what's actually in your accounts, create or update your budget for the new month.
Start with your expected income.
Then list your necessary expenses.
For example:
Income
Salary
Side-hustle income
Business income
Freelance work
Other income
Then plan for your expenses:
Bills
Rent or mortgage
Loan payments
Insurance
Phone
Internet
Utilities
Everyday spending
Groceries
Gas
Transportation
Lunch
Personal care
Household expenses
Lifestyle
Dining out
Shopping
Entertainment
Beauty
Subscriptions
Financial goals
Savings
Emergency fund
Debt repayment
Investments
Your budget doesn't need to make you feel restricted.
It should tell your money where to go before it disappears.
And remember to leave room for enjoying your life.
A budget that is so strict that you abandon it after five days isn't helping you.
Make it realistic.
4. Set ONE Savings Goal for the Month 💗
Instead of simply telling yourself:
“I need to save more.”
Choose an actual number.
For example:
This month I will save $500.
Now break it down.
If you're paid twice for the month, you could transfer $250 from each payday.
If you're paid weekly, divide your savings goal across four weeks.
The important thing is turning a vague financial intention into something measurable.
You can also give your savings goal a purpose.
Instead of:
Savings — $500
Try:
Emergency Fund — $500
Vacation Fund — $300
New Laptop Fund — $400
House Deposit — $1,000
Business Fund — $250
Saving feels much more motivating when you know what you're saving for.
Try This:
Schedule your savings transfer for the same day you get paid.
When possible, treat savings like a bill you owe your future self.
5. Choose Your BIG Goal for the Month ✨
You probably have 25 things you want to accomplish.
But if you could complete one important thing this month, what would make you feel proud?
That's your big goal.
Maybe it's:
Launch my first digital product.
Pay off my credit card.
Save $1,000.
Apply for five jobs.
Complete my course.
Go to the gym consistently.
Get my first side-hustle client.
Finish decorating my bedroom.
Start posting consistently for my business.
Choose one.
Then ask yourself:
What needs to happen for me to accomplish this?
Break the goal into smaller tasks.
For example:
Big Goal: Launch My Digital Product
Week 1 — Finish product
Week 2 — Create product photos
Week 3 — Set up sales page
Week 4 — Launch and promote
Suddenly the huge goal doesn't feel so huge anymore.
Your monthly goal gives your weeks direction.
Your weekly goals give your days direction.
6. Schedule Your Appointments 🗓️
Stop waiting until you desperately need something before booking it.
At the beginning of the month, check whether you need to schedule any:
Doctor appointments
Dentist appointments
Hair appointments
Nail appointments
Eyebrow appointments
Car servicing
Therapy or counselling appointments
Business meetings
Banking appointments
School meetings
Work deadlines
Personal errands
Scheduling these early prevents that annoying end-of-month situation where you're trying to squeeze everything into three days.
Add the appointment to your calendar immediately.
And don't only schedule responsibilities.
Schedule things that make you feel good too.
7. Plan All Your Important Dates 📅
Open your calendar and look at the entire month.
Write down every important date you already know about.
This might include:
Paydays
Bill due dates
Birthdays
Anniversaries
Appointments
Meetings
Exams
Assignment deadlines
Work deadlines
Events
Travel
Date nights
Content days
Side-hustle work blocks
Self-care days
Seeing everything in one place helps you identify busy weeks before they happen.
For example, if you notice that the third week of the month has an exam, two appointments and a work deadline, that probably isn't the best week to plan an ambitious business launch.
Planning ahead gives you the ability to adjust.
That's why one of my favourite things to do during a monthly reset is complete the monthly overview first and then plan each week around it.
8. Write Your Monthly Affirmations 💕
Your monthly reset shouldn't only focus on your schedule and your bank account.
Your mindset matters too.
Choose a few affirmations that reflect the person you're trying to become.
Try affirmations like:
I am capable of creating the life I want.
I manage my money wisely and intentionally.
I am becoming more disciplined every day.
I deserve success without sacrificing my peace.
I trust myself to make good decisions.
I am consistent even when I am not motivated.
I attract opportunities that align with my goals.
I can accomplish big things through small, consistent actions.
Choose two or three that actually mean something to you.
Write them somewhere you'll see them throughout the month.
Your planner.
Your phone wallpaper.
Your mirror.
Your desk.
Or even a sticky note beside your bed.
The goal isn't to magically manifest your dream life by repeating a sentence.
It's to consistently remind yourself of the mindset you want to carry while you're actively working toward it.
